Campus Crusade for Christ drops 'Christ'

The global evangelical para-church Campus Crusade for Christ is changing it's name to 'Cru."

The main idea -- according to a look at the change at Christianity Today -- is to evade the problematic word "crusade" and the passe term "campus" (which the massive group known for the Jesus Film, books, tracts and more has long outgrown) and face up to the fact that many of its branches already use different names.

But is Christ now "He who cannot be named," so to speak?

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

Here's what the soon-to-be-Cru site says:

We were not trying to eliminate the word Christ from our name. We were looking for a name that would most effectively serve our mission and help us take the gospel to the world. Our mission has not changed. Cru enables us to have discussions about Christ with people who might initially be turned off by a more overtly Christian name. We believe that our interaction and our communication with the world will be what ultimately honors and glorifies Christ.

Christianity Today spoke to the leader of the re-branding, Steve Sellers, the CCCI vice president and U.S. national director, who explained that "Crusade"

...has become a flash word for a lot of people. It harkens back to other periods of time and has a negative connotation for lots of people across the world, especially in the Middle East.

And it turns out that "Campus" had become passe. The web site touts that the movement launched by Bill and Vonette Bright as a campus ministry in 1951 is now on 1,029 campuses. The group claims 37,900 new souls for Christ over the last five years.

That sounds exciting until you do the math -- about seven converts per campus per year. However, the campus side of "Cru" -- as it will be known next year when the re-branding is finished -- is not the primary focus any more.

According to Christianity Today, most outreach and revenue come through books, tracts and the Jesus Film.

In 1979, the ministry produced the Jesus Film, which is now available in 1,129 languages. The ministry says more than 6 billion people have watched the film, which some call the most-watched motion picture of all time. Bright wrote The Four Spiritual Laws, a popular evangelistic tract that led off with the well-known phrase "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life," in 1952. The ministry estimates that it is the most widely-distributed religious booklet, with 2.5 billion printed.

"Cru" for you-know-who was announced this week to the ministry's 5,000-member staff and many were evidently delighted as it's been in use on campuses for a few years now. Indeed, the Twitter tag is @crunews.

Sellers told the group:

We believe wholeheartedly that God has given us this new name. Our team understands that our name is really for the benefit of others. Ultimately, it's not about our name, but how we live out our mission everyday.

DO YOU THINK... it matters what banner evangelism flies? Should Christians shy from mentioning Christ at the get-go?

Bachmann, Perry faith inspires -- and frightens

Who has dominion over defining 'dominionism'?

It's the word of the month right now. Washington Post blogger/columnist Lisa Miller accused progressives and media of using it as a scare tactic to demonize evangelicals and beat up unfairly on Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry. Then the associate editor for the progressive voice, Religion Dispatches, whaled into Miller.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

Miller writes, in part, that "Evangelicals generally do not want to take over the world" and broadly describes "Dominionism" as...

... a Christian's obligation to be active in the world, including in politics and government. More narrowly, some view it as Christian nationalism.

... Extremist dominionists do exist, as theocrats who hope to transform our democracy into something that looks like ancient Israel, complete with stoning as punishment. But "it's a pretty small world," says (Mary) Worthen (who teaches religious history at the University of Toronto).

Mark DeMoss, whose Atlanta-based public relations firm represents several Christian groups, put it this way: "You would be hard-pressed to find one in 1,000 Christians in America who could even wager a guess at what dominionism is."

Peter Montgomery, an associate editor for Religion Dispatches and a Senior Fellow at People For the American Way Foundation, bites back:

Dominionism refers to a theological tenet at the core of the religious right movement -- that Christians are meant to exercise dominion over the earth...

It may be true, as evangelical leader Mark DeMoss says in Miller's story, that "you would be hard-pressed to find one in 1,000 Christians in America would could even wager a guess at what dominionism is." But it's certainly not true of the leaders of the religious right political movement. Their followers are hearing dominionist teaching whether they know it or not.

In Montgomery's piece there's plenty to fear as, he says, :

... a broad swath of conservative evangelical leadership to adopt a shared set of talking points, if you will, to unite theologically disparate elements in common political cause to defeat the Satanic/demonic enemies of faith and freedom: secularists, gays, liberals, and the Obama administration.

Can we set aside the question of "dominion" -- being in charge -- to look at a related set of questions? Here are mine:

Do you see anything wrong with being a political activist on behalf of God? Wouldn't human rights activists, peace activists and anti-poverty activists say they, too, are trying to carry out God's work on earth?

Pope's youth day draws a million -- and controversies

The weeklong faith extravaganza of World Youth Day is underway now with more than a million young Catholics expected to pour in to Madrid.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

Pope Benedict XVI isn't due until Thursday, but the $72 million celebration is still a hot item. And not all for good reasons, according to The New York Times,

... Bitter debates are raging over the festivities and the role of the church in Spanish politics.

... priests, along with dozens of left-leaning groups demanding a secular state and young people who occupied many of Spain's main squares for months to protest the government's handling of the economy, are planning at least one major protest march on Wednesday.

... They suspect that the cost of extra security, of collecting trash and of stress on health systems will add up to millions for taxpayers. For one thing, the pilgrims have been granted an 80 percent discount on public transportation, which some find particularly galling because subway fares just went up by 50 percent.

There is also some tension within the ranks. Religion News Service columnist David Gibson points out Catholics for Choice, the Washington-based abortion rights lobby, will be at WYD campaigning for condom use.

A year ago the pope said he considered it morally acceptable for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS, but the Vatican has clarified repeatedly condoms are not OK for contraception. Gibson says the CfC's program, Condoms4Life, is posting English- and Spanish-language advertisements around Madrid saying,

Thank you, Pope Benedict, for acknowledging that condoms save lives.

But the 30 activists will not distribute condoms...

""Condoms are readily available in Spain," (a spokesman) said -- and that they will be careful not to push their message at Masses or other sacred events.

Still, there's always something irresistable about spectacle. If you want to catch a snippet of WYD excitement -- and a two-minute video on cool stats and history of the event -- check Busted Halo this week.

Did you ever do to World Youth Day? Do you think such huge events must inevitably require government financial support? Is that OK with you?

Most don't know Romney's Mormon, Obama's Christian

The faith factor in the 2012 presidential race is pretty fuzzy. Not only do most Americans fail to identify President Obama as Christian, three in four don't know Mitt Romney is a Mormon, according to a new survey.

And that matters, says Robert Jones, director of the Public Religion Research Institute, which did the survey in partnership with Religion News Service. The survey, released Monday, also found perceptions of a candidate's religion -- right or wrong -- matter to potential voter support.

Jones says:

Religion is one of the lenses people use to decide whether they can identify with a candidate. For all the talk about Romney's so-called Mormon problem, it can't be looming that large for him right now.

A bigger problem is that 48% Americans say Obama's religion -- whatever they think it is -- is somewhat or very different than their own. They are much less likely to support his candidacy.

Among the findings:

40% of Americans don't know Obama's religion; 38% correctly call him Christian, 18% continue to wrongly identify him as Muslim; 4% says he's not religious.40% correctly identify Romney as Mormon; 46% don't know, 11% call him some form of Christian (1% Muslim, 1% not religious, 1% never heard of him) despite saturating media coverage on the matter in the 2008 primaries.72% say Mormons hold religious beliefs that are somewhat or very different from their own.56% of the public says it is very important or somewhat important for a presidential candidate to have strong religious beliefs regardless of whether those beliefs are the same as their own.

Among those who know Romney is Mormon and who also say Mormons have very different religious beliefs than their own, Obama would beat Romney if the election were held tomorrow with 53% of votes to 36% for Romney.

That's a far bigger spread than the survey found overall, with Obama leading by eight percentage points over Romney, 44% to 36%.

The survey did not ask people to name Michele Bachmann's religious identity (she's an evangelical Christian but her denominational ties aren't currently clear).

But it did ask if people thought her religion was similar to their own: 38% said they have no idea; 31% said Bachmann's religious ideas were very or somewhat different than their own; 24% said they thought her view were very or somewhat similar. Another 5% never heard of her and 2% refused to answer.

DO YOU THINK... you're more likely to vote for a candidate who shares your religious views? Could you vote for an atheist?

Norway suspect sought 'Christian war' against Islam

Islamophobia has reached a mass murder level in Norway as the confessed killer claims he sought to combat encroachment by Muslims into his country and Europe.

Anders Behring Breivik's bombing and shooting spree puts the spotlight back on Europe's uneasy adjustment to a shifting population.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

According to The New York Times, he called for

... a Christian war to defend Europe against the threat of Muslim domination... And acquaintances described him as a gun-loving Norwegian obsessed with what he saw as the threats of multiculturalism and Muslim immigration.

Thomas Hegghammer, a terrorism specialist at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, told the times that Breivik's manuscript, like the major al-Qaeda declarations, include...

detailed accounts of the Crusades, a pronounced sense of historical grievance and calls for apocalyptic warfare to defeat the religious and cultural enemy.

But despite Breivik's fears of cultural shifts, Muslims today are only 6% of the region's population -- and just 3% of the population in Norway, 34% of them immigrants, according to a massive study by the The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, released in January

It found Muslims will be more than one-quarter of the Earth's population by 2030 -- but only 8% of the population in Europe and 6.5% of the population in Norway. The Future of the Global Muslim Population analyzed statistics from United Nations data and Census material from more than 200 countries and studies by 50 international demographers, using birth rates, death rates, immigration and more for the study.

In Europe as a whole, the Muslim share of the population is expected to grow by nearly one-third over the next 20 years... rising to 8% in 2030. In absolute numbers, Europe's Muslim population is projected to grow from 44.1 million in 2010 to 58.2 million in 2030.

The Pew Forum is now working on similar comprehensive population studies for other religious groups. But statistics don't shed any light on the confessed actions of Breivik. According to wire service reports:

Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere told reporters that the attacks, believed to be the work of a man who has posted on Christian fundamentalist websites, showed you can't jump to conclusions about terror acts. He said most of the political violence that Norway has seen has come from the extreme right.

So, I have a bundle of questions now.

Who here knows exactly what's meant by Norwegian Christian fundamentalist? Should such terms be tossed about without definition? Is he a terrorist because he's Christian or a Christian who happens to be a terrorist or, if he's a terrorist, can he really be a Christian at all? And isn't that exactly the same points Muslims make about terrorists who claim to be Islamic?

NOTE: Be civil. The rule at Faith & Reason is that all views, respectfully presented, are welcome.

Atheist Richard Dawkins blasts Catholic Church

How is raging atheist Richard Dawkins "celebrating" World Youth Day? While Pope Benedict blesses a million youths in Madrid, Dawkins is promoting the latest event of the "Secular Europe" campaign, launched in 2008, to attack Vatican influence.

While the site and Dawkins condemn all organized religion as pernicious, the Catholic Church is the chief target of diatribes. It features a video of Dawkins announcing a London march set for Sept. 17th.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

And it blasts the Vatican, saying

... It is extremely powerful and its "moral" crusades adversely affect the lives of millions of people in Europe and in the world.

And the site supporters's demands include a call for ...

A secular Europe -- democratic, peaceful, open and just, immune to the clandestine influence of privileged religious (or other) organizations.

What about all the immense good -- social services and health care just for starters - provided to millions by the Catholic Church?

What about the idea that the public square is open to all, religious included, in a democracy?

Think about it: Would banishing religious-based views and actions privilege atheism?

Archbishop Chaput faces 'a lion's den' in troubled Philly

Pope Benedict XVI has named Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver to succeed Justin Rigali as archbishop of Philadelphia.

It's a double-historic moment for Chaput. A member of the Prairie Band of the Potawatomi Tribe of American Indians, he becomes the nation's first Native American archbishop and likely to be named a cardinal within a few years. And he inherits a seething mess of mishandled sexual abuse charges against priests and archdiocesan officials.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

The Catholic blogosphere (Tweet go #Chaput and you'll be buried in links), the National Catholic Reporter and the Philadelphia Daily News, which played the lead that Rigali is out, were all pointing straight to Chaput, some with glee and some with mixed views.

Philly-based Rocco Palmo, of Whispers in the Loggia, has known Chaput since Rocco was 13 and sent him a letter because,

I had never seen someone like him -- very energetic, personable and clear. You can't mistake what he's thinking. He's a visionary. And what a change this will be. Philadelphia has had staid, traditional bishops and here comes someone who can combine gnuine fidelity to the church with this vigor. This is a revolutionary choice!

Palmo sees the pick as a sign the pope wants

... significant changes in the culture of the archdiocses. You won't see innovations in doctrine but the expression of the faith is about to undergo it's most significant reboot in almost 200 years. Chaput is someone who doesn't mind the lion's den and he's walking in to the lion's den of his life.

Thomas Peters, blogging at American Papist, known for its strong conservative stance on traditional marriage and opposition to abortion rights, calls Chaput "an incredibly good choice." Peters has visited Denver, run by Chaput since 1997, and described it as a thriving, youthful, technologically savvy archdiocese in action. He admires the archbishop:

He's an inspiring voice for Catholics to be good citizens... I love him for his public stances on the issues. His book, Render Unto Caesar, is the clearest statement of how Catholics are called in to public life without checking their Catholic world view at the door.

Peters also views a Chaput choice as one more critical appointment in a string of major names in the U.S. hierarchy including Archbishop Jose Gomez in Los Angeles, Archbishop Timothy Dolan in New York and Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston-Houston.

But whoever takes on the 1.5-million member, five-county archdiocese, inherits the scandal and financial pressures that will force parish closings and consolidations. Says Michael Sean Winter, blogger at National Catholic Reporter,

You have to pray for whoever gets named.

Winter also says,

Whether you think Chaput is the ideal pick depends on what you think is needed there

If you think you need the marshal going in to Dodge City to put the bad guys in jail, Chaput would be your guy. If you want some one who would spread balm rather than throw the bomb, that's a different kind of personality.

Chaput, says Winter, is

... a culture warrior. It puts blinders on him that make him do regrettable things. A perfect example: He ruled that children of gay parents can't go to Catholic schools. His classmate at seminary, Cardinal Sean O'Malley (both are members of the Capuchin order of Franciscan priests) reached the exact opposite decision in Boston, saying that you don't make decisions for children based on their parents' behavior.

The retiring Rigali, who took on the diocese in 2003, faces withering fire from a February grand jury report, that excoriated the archdiocese for, as the Daily News called it:

... widespread cover-up of predatory priests over decades, and alleging that as many as 37 priests remained active in the ministry despite credible accusations against them. The report recommended that the Archdiocese revamp procedures for assisting victims and for removing priests accused of molesting children.

A high-ranking Archdiocesan official was charged with child-endangerment for allegedly transferring "predator priests" to other positions. Two priests, a former priest and a former Catholic schoolteacher were charged with sexually assaulting minors. In response to the grand-jury report, Rigali initially said that no priests in active ministry "have an admitted or established allegation of sexual abuse of a minor against them."

The paper recapped the scandal and noted that this isn't even the first grand jury to highlight failures to protect Philadelphia youth from predatory priests. And earlier panel did so in 2005 and...

Two months ago, the Associated Press reported that the head of the church's own review board accused Rigali and his bishops of having "failed miserably at being open and transparent," and said that most cases of abuse had been kept from the board.

DO YOU THINK it takes a touch of pastoral balm or a bomb-thrower to refocus the Philadelphia archdiocese on Catholic's spiritual lives and social justice? Can one bishop do both?

Pop-up churches find school spaces handy but tricky

Now you see it. Now you don't.

Instant churches (it's mostly churches) are popping up in public schools every weekend and vanishing within hours of the benediction. I wrote about the trend in today's cover story and co-worker Natalie DiBlasio found several examples of convenience -- and conflicts -- that come with the instant church phenomenon.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

While most schools, mindful of constitutional restrictions on the entanglement of church and state, take a strictly hand's off approach. The pop-up prayer sessions can do nothing permanent to the facilities and in most places may not advertise their presence to the general public.

But Linda Streeter, director of community education for the Dysart Unified School District in Phoenix suburb of Surprise, Ariz., one of the nation's fastest growing districts, allows religious groups to advertise their locale with prior approval and lets them set up a portable baptistery on the lawn.

Pastor Jesse Eisenhart of the 5-year-old True North Church, currently meeting in a middle school gym in Mantua, N.J., says the space has allowed their congregation to double from 250 to 500 worshipers. He says they have met the decor challenges with "creativity," but they also spent $1,000 to install ceiling motors to raise and lower sound speakers -- a permanent installation permitted because it benefits the school.

That's not allowed in New York City, where the board made one school take down a satellite dish it installed without permission.

Rev. Michael Prewitt, now serving as pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland, R.I., tells DiBlasio about years of church-in-school experiences that he said, "make you feel like a missionary in your own back yard in America" and really bound volunteers to a sense of community.

Still, it could be funny at times. Prewitt says,

We got accused one time of not erasing the wipe-board well enough and leaving 'faint spiritual messages' so that has become a joke among us. Maybe we didn't erase the word Jesus quite enough.

Would it worry you -- or delight you -- if your child came to school and found Jesus' name faintly inscribed on the blackboard? Do you worship in an "instant church" at a school setting?

Alert, Dudes: 'The Big Lebowski' gets a Bible

Forgive me, Dudes, but I never did see The Big Lebowski, although my colleague in religion writing Cathleen Falsani has evangelized mightily for the Joel and Ethan Coen 1998 cult classic.

Now, following up on Falsani's own book, The Dude Abides: The Gospel According to the Coen Brothers," comes news that the "religion" celebrating "The Dude" Lebowski's "ethos," will now have an "official Dudeist Bible" she writes in her Religion News Service column.

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

The Abide Guide: Living Like Lebowski, by Oliver Benjamin and Dwayne Eutsey, shares the slacker wisdom of dropping afterlife anxiety and learning to "abide where we are," Benjamin told Falsani.

"We, the Dudeists, in order to form a more perfect groovin', establish just taking it easy, and promote inner tranquility, do ordain and establish this guide on abiding," the Dudeist "survival guide" begins.

For in this world there are two paths you can go by. There's the uptight way and there's the Dude way."

Falsani, an evangelical Christian herself as well as a practicing Dudeist, sees no conflict in melding this philosophy with any other faith:

Dudeism's charge to "take it easy" fits nicely with the Judeo-Christian tradition of treating others as you'd have them treat you.

In fact, in the Dudeist tradition, Jesus Christ is considered to be a proto-Dude or prophet, along with various other gurus of grooviness such as the Buddha, Walt Whitman, Bob Marley, Jerry Garcia and Emily Dickinson.

Neither should ladies feel excluded because one of the guide's avowed objectives is get "everyone, male and female, to just take it easy" and "rid the word 'dude' of any masculine bias," she writes.

Now, speaking in utter ignorance of The Dude, Lebowski-style, I find something contradictory about a slacker scripture -- like it's way more organized than seems fitting. So, Dudes, set me straight here.

DO YOU THINK ... everyone should follow The Dude?

Embryonic stem cell research is a moral choice: Francis Collins

Is it more ethical to use the 400,000 frozen embryos that will never be drawn out of fertility clinic freezers for "for a benevolent purpose or to discard them?"

That's the question Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, former head of the U.S. human genome program and an evangelical Christian, raised Tuesday at a USA TODAY editorial board meeting. He takes a strong moral stance on this -- in favor of the "breathtaking" prospects for scientific discovery with use of embryonic stem cells within political and moral guidelines.

It was just one of several religion-and-science comments included in his discussion. My colleague at Science Fair, Dan Vergano, has more on Collins' comments that

... angry atheists are out there using science as a club to to hit believers over the head." He expressed concern that prominent researchers suggesting that one can't believe in evolution and believe in God, may be "causing a lot of people not familiar with science to change their assessments of it."

And now, as Dan notes in another post,

A federal judge has ruled against a lawsuit that temporarily halted the expansion of federally funded human embryonic stem cell research.

DO YOU FEEL ... clubbed by either side on the science-religion debate? Or do you, like Collins, synthesize these worldviews?

After Sept. 11, 'religion can no longer be ignored'

"Religion, at last, can no longer be ignored."

That was one of five "unintended, unforeseen" consequences of 9/11, according to historian R. Scott Appleby of University of Notre Dame.

Reporting on the spiritual impact of 9/11 has given me the chance to talk longer with Appleby and with theologian and psychologist Fraser Watts who raises the provocative idea that religion can be "healthy or unhealthy."

FOLLOW:Faith & Reason blog on Twitter

Both spoke this weekend at the Templeton-Cambridge seminars on Science and Religion sponsored by the Templeton Foundation (check tweets for more seminar insights at #TCJF).

Appleby, who co-chaired the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and Task Force on Religion and the Making of U.S. Foreign Policy, also directs "Contending Modernities," a program examining the interaction of Catholic, Muslim and secular forces in modern world.

His five points began with the tidal shift in views on religion in academia and politics. Following World War II the dominant view was that religion would inevitably give way to secularism, become privatized and be increasingly irrelevant in the public square. That "secular myopia" vanished "when 9/11 made it palpably clear that religion does matter in all these realms."

Appleby's other four points:

Religion is now being treated with more depth and sophistication -- by media, government and academia. There's new recognition that believers are "not all pathological or irrational or crazy. We see more nuance now. And we see that people are making a conscious and reasoned choices to hold on to faith."Islam has been put in the spotlight" with consequences to the good, such as the Common Word document by Muslim scholars addressed to the Catholic Church, and to the bad, such as the "new McCarthyism" of fear and anger toward Muslims. Appleby cites new initiatives around the world in serious interfaith, interreligious dialogue and collaboration. There's a new interest in examining the structural and substantive ways that "healthy" religion is working in the world for promoting peace and social justice and defeating poverty and disease. The world's challenges have to be met collectively and cannot be resolved with the faith communities.

Keep in mind, Appleby says, "What if there were a God? What if the sacred is real?"

In short, you can't understand humanity if you omit the people for whom belief is not imagined, but a channel of reality.

Fraser Watts, an Anglican priest, theologian and psychologist, centered his talk on the response to the terror attacks by Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the global Anglican Communion.

Williams, then a bishop, was visiting Manhattan on 9/11 when the planes hit the towers two blocks from where he stood.

Williams later wrote that he wrestled with how to answer the theodicy question -- where was God when innocents died in his name? And his answer is very true to the Anglican tradition that does not see God intervening in human history.

Williams chooses to emphasize the presence of God in the sacrificial actions of first responders who "practice living in the face of death." This is a religiosity that doesn't recruit God to fix woes but rather sees God in how humans live with and through crises, says Watts.

The archbishop wrote that we all have to live with a "new kind of global vulnerability" and the experience can "open a door into the suffering of countless other innocents."

Says Watts, "Seen in this light, 9/11 is a spiritual and psychological challenge, as well as a political and military one. Living without defenses is always a challenge. Mature, healthy religion tries to rise to that challenge," so that a time of grief can point to a time of growth.

But Watts was not entirely satisfied with Williams' emphasis on vulnerability. It takes strength -- strength enough to live with doubt -- to accomplish an essential religious task: Reconciliation.

Reconciliation, says Watts, forces us to take our global inter-dependence seriously. It's part of what Watts called "healthy religion" -- religion that is at home with complexity, doubt and humility. Healthy religion, he says, requires people to listen and to think and to be "extremely skeptical" of people who have an "unhealthy," simplistic, black and white vision of the world.

Watts is also wary of people who claim a hotline to God. "By virtue of their claiming it, it's unlikely to be true."

Did your experience of the 2001 attacks change your perspective on faith? What spiritual impact lingers with you?

Magical Chauvet Reveals Earliest Story of Creation!

Magical Chauvet Reveals Earliest Story of Creation!

Over 30,000 years ago, a spectacular Story of Creation was finger-puttied into the cave wall of Chauvet's Hillaire Chamber.

September 06, 2011 /Religion PR News/ -- Over 30,000 years ago, a spectacular Story of Creation was finger-puttied into the cave wall of Chauvet's Hillaire Chamber. 'Panel of the Engraved Horse' is now 'Genesis of the World' and appears to be a foundational cornerstone for subsequent Scripture. Indeed, religious symbolism may have dawned in southern France with this six meter mural. The star of this magical scene is a Winged Horse! A Universal Holy Being who symbolizes the spiritual bodies of both God and man. Possibly the first religious artifact (predating Noah's Ark and Ark of the Covenant), details of this story can indeed be found today throughout Traditional Lore and Holy Books.... www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/chauvet/en/owpt14.htm

*The Horse Cherub's front hoof (artfully tapered/pointed for emphasis) is shown symbolically striking a mountain- gushing forth a waterfall of Inspired Life/Being/Creation. 28,000 years later, the Bible's Book of Genesis records Adam being made from the earth's clay at basically the same time Pegasus of Greco-Roman Lore was credited with "using its front hooves to strike the ground of the earth and generate the Fountain of the Muses- Inspiring the root of all Creativity." (Origins and Consciousness, Erich Neumann) as reported in God's Steed- Key to World Peace.

*The Creator's Steed multitasks- urinating a white cloud of (most certainly) holy, life sustaining water, while fertilizing and seeding the earth. These streams ("previously unexplained parallel lines under the horse") clearly point back to the Steed's most male parts!

*This inspired Parade of Creation continues with the Mammoth White Elephant- who symbolizes the Universal Monarch for Hindus/Buddhists. Incredibly- the Shaman drew a 'parade dress tassel' that springs forward from the high point of this Majestic Beast's front shoulders- indicating body adornment/jewelry, domestication and celebration! Very impressive.

*Resembling the ancient Tarpan wild horse, this Angel of the Lord demonstrates effort and wide eyed determination- its head is lowered and wing(s) swept back. The thick mane crests and falls to the far side of the neck, allowing full view of that stylized wing. Known by many names: Magic Carpet; Tree of Life; Conductor of Souls; Emblem of Atlantis; Wheel; Throne; Unicorn: Christopher (Christ Bearer); Burak; Kalki; Odin's Steed; Paraclete; Guardian Angel- the Holy Books honor this Living Angelic Creature from Creation to the Story of Judgment Day! Common ground of shared Truth that can promote understanding and tolerance- possibly a key to peace.

*A huge, snooted, earthbound pig/boar looks on facing/confronting this parade. The pig/boar has dual symbolism. This Adversary/Devil/Sloth of the Earth stands ready to tempt, but known in the Orient for luck, prosperity and fertility- it also welcomes/promotes life. Insightful!

*God's Steed is the Creator's Holy Spirit in this Chauvet masterpiece. Located by design in the Hillaire Chamber- it intentionally overlooks the cave's sinkhole. The Shaman used this site's geography, contours, reliefs and spectacular abyss to 'stage' a most complete creation story. This cave's water path exit and darkness are symbolic of the River Styx and Hades/Hell. A vivid reminder of our body's temporary life- and probably used for ceremonial burial. Wow!

*The Angel of the Lord's presence at this original Story of Creation may help explain Genesis 1:26 from the Bible. "Let us make man in our own image after our likeness." Image/likeness here refers to spiritual being, not the temporary body. Angels indeed predate mankind, attending our Creation. The concepts of Angels; Trinity; The Creator's Holy Spirit and Judgment Day are also shared by the Holy Books! God's Steed- Key to World Peace

*The Angelic Horse/Holy Spirit is truly a Big Wheel, who at times travels in that form- do we see it here? They become other symbols: the Circumpunct; Solar Cross; Hindu Swastika; Tree of Life/Paisley and many Crosses. No lost symbol! God's Steed- Key to World Peace

*The Chauvet Grotto features a Noah's Ark variety of animals- appropriate for the Creation theme! Angelic Key to World Peace Found in French Chauvet Cave!

Angelic Key to World Peace Found in French Chauvet Cave!

'Genesis of the World' appears to be a foundational cornerstone for subsequent Scripture. Indeed, religious symbolism may have dawned in southern France with this six meter mural. The star of this magical scene is a Winged Horse! A Universal Holy Being who symbolizes the spiritual bodies of both God and man. Possibly the first religious artifact (predating Noah's Ark and Ark of the Covenant), details now throughout Traditional Lore and Holy Books.... www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/chauvet/en/owpt14.htm

God's Steed- Key to World Peace.

God's Steed- Key to World Peace.

*The Chauvet Grotto features a Noah's Ark variety of animals- appropriate for the Creation theme! Wooly Rhinoceros is the most numerous, but expected- as the single horn symbolizes eternal salvation by pointing the 'Way to Heaven'. Mentioned in the Bible, the legendary Unicorn was born right here, an inspired variation of God's Steed which honors The Creator. Meridian Idaho Real Estate Agent Says Lower Prices Are Allowing More Pastors to Buy Homes

Meridian Idaho Real Estate Agent Says Lower Prices Are Allowing More Pastors to Buy Homes

Lower real estate prices have been a blessing for people in ministry according to Idaho real estate agent John Espinosa.

MERIDIAN, ID, September 02, 2011 /Religion PR News/ -- For pastors, lower prices for real estate have been truly a blessing, allowing some to buy a home for the first time, according to Meridian real estate agent John Espinosa.

Espinosa, who comes from a family deeply involved in Christian ministry, says that the economic downturn has hurt a lot of charitable organizations, to be sure. But he says that ministers who have a steady income, however sparse, can often afford to buy a home now, whereas before they couldn't.

"In the past, incomes were an issue, of course; everyone knows your average pastor doesn't make a lot of money. The biggest problem in the way of home ownership, however, was high real estate prices, and now that they've come down a bit, we're seeing more pastors able to afford to buy a home."

He says that since the most active price point over the past few years has fallen to below the $100,000 mark, affordability has worked in the favor of those serving the church who want to buy a home.

"Many ministers have felt like the sense of permanency and security a family feels as a result of owning a home was unattainable. The weak economy has done a lot of harm, but the one good thing it has done is make Boise, Meridian and Eagle homes very affordable."

"Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit."

This most important insight from the Bible also reinforces my own hypothesis!

August 24, 2011 /Religion PR News/ -- This most important insight from the Bible also reinforces my own hypothesis!

"Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." - John: 3-3"

For me the most challenging and intriguing chapter of the Bible is chapter 3 from St. John. The part about 'being born again' is clear as explained in Wikipedia, "In Christianity, born again refers to a "spiritual rebirth" (regeneration) of the human soul or spirit, contrasted with the physical birth everyone experiences."

However inspite of having spent hundreds of hours over many years on trying to decode the explanation given to Nicodemus:

'5 Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.'

I was still not able to decode this intriguing explanation.

However yesterday the buses were running late and while waiting and waiting for the bus I went back to reading St John Ch 3. What caught my attention was, '6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.' I kept rolling this over and over in my mind. Finally it happened and even though I have not reached the level of decoding like I did in "The 4th R Foundation Would Like To Draw The Attention Of Our Leaders To The 5 Words That Are The Key To Becoming Wise: God Said To Moses, 'I Am Who I Am." - Exodus 3:14" I think I have come close to solving at least partly the mystery of this chapter.

I feel I have succeed in decoding this particular line: '6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.'!!!

My basic hypothesis quantifies the mind/brain into broadly and approximately four basic stages and as there are four levels of the brain/mind there are four levels of individuals, groups, countries and leaders described as follows:

a) Premature mind (-2)...a totally self centered brutal nature. Leaders that are stuck at this level manifest themselves as dictators and tyrants. At this stage of the mind the child considers his own self as all reality. In his mind he alone exists. One's own self is all that counts. Others don't count at all as they don't even exist. Leaders who are stuck at this emotional mind level consider themselves as all important and they build huge monuments to themselves and stash away money in illegal accounts neglecting and robbing the common man and the country. To achieve their own goals they abuse their power, commit atrocities and abuse human rights. Inspite of all the illegal wealth and power this mind level leaders are very insecure. They spend a disproportionate amount of money on their own and their countries security. For these leaders they alone are
above the law and everyone else is below the law. Except for the very few cronies of the leader the rest of the country lives in poverty and life remains a constant struggle. Many countries in the world are ruled by this -2 mind level leaders. We must wake up the world to their -2 emotional mind and its consequences. Individuals at this -2 level end up as murderers, thugs, rapists etc. They are the very personification of evil. The brain is physically and emotionally stuck at the -2 level and it projects a -2 mind/self/self-image. At this stage the mind is practically a slave of the brain. It is the physical brain that is totally in-charge of the brain-mind self-identity. We can scientifically say that the individual at this -2 level is the physical brain which is pure flesh, which totally rules the mind(spirit).

b) Immature mind (-1)... an opportunistic nature that will break the law if the individual thinks that he can get away with it. At this stage of the mind level the teenager thinks that even though he has no power today his time will come and he deserves the best today. He will try to fulfill his lopsided dreams by hook or by crook. He considers himself as most important and will do everything to make it so if he feels he can get away with even committing illegal acts. Leaders whose minds are stuck at this level are extremely corrupt. They build up illegal fortunes at the cost of the country and the common man. Most third world countries have this level mind leaders and citizens. Individuals at this level are a mixture of brain and mind. One can scientifically say that this level -1 brain-mind represents a mixture of flesh(brain) and spirit(mind).

c) Mature mind (+1)... a responsible nature that respects the equality of all. At this stage the adult mind considers himself as first among equals. He still struggles to make the most for his own self. He works for his own family first. Leaders who are at this level of the mind work for their whole nation but more so for their
own supporters, their own party and their own vested interests first. When it comes to international relations they put their own country above all else. When President Bush places jobs above carbon emissions he is coming from this mind level. Most developed countries are in this category. They especially over spend on defense to remain first in military power at least in their own neighborhood. So called super powers and aspiring super powers try to expand the range of their defense powers by spending even more to show off power beyond their borders. They spend more than they need on defense but they spend enough on other sectors where the economy benefits the whole country. Individuals at this level are responsible citizens however they suffer from a phony over confident self image. They are brought up on ,'I am the best' belief that is implanted into their physical brain structure. As a result they have a trophy self image. The brain-mind complex is mostly ruled by the mind. Thus at this stage the brain-mind complex is mostly spirit.

d) Super mature mind (+2)...an altruistic nature. At this mind level the mind develops to the highest level of emotional intelligence which is wisdom. The person considers himself as part of the whole human family. He considers everyone else as #1 irrespective of caste and creed, gender or economic status. Leaders who manifest themselves at this level genuinely work for the whole country and also try their best to help other countries. They don't help their own supporters above the opposition. They treat all alike with the
same highest respect. For them all the people at large especially the poor are worthy of more attention and financial assistance so their priorities and policies focus on education, health, infrastructure and economic growth away from defense. Such leaders bring economic prosperity and real change in the lives of all the sections of society. The whole country becomes richer. Such leaders are truly altruistic and humble. All their spending is rational. Their priorities are equally focused on education, health, and infrastructure and defense and every thing in-between. This is the kind of leader every country needs every time there is an election. Individuals at this +2 brain-mind complex are true altruistic beings who are true manifestations of the pure self. Their mind(spirit) is in total control of the brain(flesh).

Individuals who grow up chronologically but remain emotionally at -2 brain level can be termed as flesh.
These are the real criminals of the world. They either are mentally challenged and so are dependent on society for their needs or are criminals and so cause harm to the society. No wonder Jesus says those of flesh(brain) cannot go to heaven.

Individuals who grow up chronologically but remain emotionally at -1 brain level can be termed as a mixture of flesh(brain) and spirit(mind). No wonder there are many layers of heaven and hell.

Individuals who grow up chronologically but remain emotionally at +1 brain level can be termed as mostly spirit(mind).

Individuals who grow up emotionally to the +2 brain/mind level can be termed as fully self-actualized spirits.

Thus think of the brain as flesh and the mind as spirit.

Thus, 'Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.' we can decode as,
"Brain gives birth to brain, but the Mind gives birth to mind.' Thus born again means mind rebirth. Which means wisdom education, which among many education roads also means my very own self image therapy! (please google, 'self image therapy by sajid khan').

What a blessing! This most important insight from the Bible also reinforces my own hypothesis!

Ghost Hunting At The Spooky Tatton Old Hall, Cheshire, With Simply Ghost Nights - 10th September

Ghost Hunting At The Spooky Tatton Old Hall, Cheshire, With Simply Ghost Nights - 10th September

Tatton Old Hall nestles neatly in the centre of the Tatton Park Estate, but underneath the serene exterior of the estate lies a ghostly world hid from the prying eyes of its visitors to the Old Hall

YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, September 07, 2011 /Religion PR News/ -- The Simply Ghost Nights team are so excited to be returning to this quaint Tudor hall which is over 500 years old, set in approximately a thousand acres of land and which is also home to roaming deer.

Tatton Old Hall was once described by Most Haunted's Yvette Fielding as the scariest place she had been to. Tatton Old Hall nestles neatly in the centre of the Tatton Park Estate, but underneath the serene exterior of the estate lies a ghostly world hid from the prying eyes of its visitors to the Old Hall. Join Simply Ghost Nights as we attempt to unravel the enigma that is... Tatton Old Hall.

On a previous visit to this creepy Old Hall, we encountered strange tapping noises in the corner of one of the bedrooms of what would have been the servants rooms in years gone by, what caused these devilish noises to occur and when we called out for more banging, the spirit world duly obliged.

In the Main Hall under the light from the open fire we were delighted by the ferocity of the table tipping that we experienced in this part of the Tudor building. The spirit of gentleman called Tom is said haunt this area and is reputed to have a dislike towards women, who dare venture into his domain. One of our tables bears the scratch marks from a previous investigation at the old hall from unseen hands.

The spinning room is home to one of the most famous spirits of Tatton, a young girl who happily communicates with the living. She was believed to have died as a teenager and has been seen and contacted many times. A dark shadow was seen to dart in the corridor of the first floor, and is frequently spotted by visitors and is said to disappear as quickly as it had arrived.

We were once informed by a member of staff who told us of an incident that happened some years ago, a school trip was visiting the building when one of the teachers saw the ghostly figure of a lady walk along the gallery above her, and vanish into thin air. The teacher who had no idea the old hall was haunted was completely shocked when told of the lady in White who is often seen in the same spot.

With so much history and reputedly spirit activity dare you join the Simply Ghost Nights team as we enter the ghostly world of Tatton Old Hall on the 10th September.

Simply Ghost Nights offers a unique event package, a ghost hunting event whether it's for a corporate function, or for individuals. Simply Ghost Nights is at the fore front of providing a wealth of experience and all the latest ghost hunting equipment for their ghost hunters to use.
Join us if you dare!

Knight of Columbus Unveils Magical Chauvet Creation Story!

Knight of Columbus Unveils Magical Chauvet Creation Story!

The Lone Centaur poses on a hanging rock- symbolizing ascension/enlightenment, the metaphysical unification of Soul and Spirit. Centaurs are present in all religions today. Inspired art of Divine Creation is on display at Chauvet. Enjoy!

God's Steed- Key to World Peace (C) 2011 Breese/D?Aoust is a unique non-fiction that cites Scripture, lore, science, many witnesses and a plethora of cherubim graphics- all confirming the existence of this fine Angelic Beast. Horsefeathers? January 3, 1994: God's Steed visited Breese's living room, who detailed a report to the Church and they knighted him. Chauvet-Pont-d?Arc was discovered December 18th, 1994. Will this Holy Site help dawn the Age of Aquarius?

Jesus the Greatest Mind Scientist

gives birth to spirit.' This insight from Jesus has huge practical applications for all the mind sciences, from medical to psychology. It even unifies the aims of science and religion. Some of the very practical lessons are as follows if we understand the clue and interpret the brain as flesh and the mind as spirit:

1) The brain and mind are very clearly two different entities. In order to understand man it is essential that we understand the nature and function of these similar but very different components of the human self. One is flesh/body/brain and the other is spirit/soul/mind.

2) 'Spirit gives birth to spirit' means that we have to use not our flesh(brain) but only our Mind(the Divine part in us) to be born again as our mind. So again it is very essential to be able to know how to use our mind to become our mind.

3) We are born as flesh(brain) and immediately our mind begins to form. It is a matter of cultivating and nurturing the development of the human mind by following insights from the Divine Mind.

4) The purpose of life is to become the human spirit, the fully actualized human mind. In science and medical terms it means to develop one's mind to the super mature level. Thus the aim of religionand the aim of science is exactly the same - The full actualization of the brain/mind, flesh/spirit human potential. Both are saying that we must become our pure self/spirit/mind.

5) In order to be able to pursue a pure life one has to be capable of knowing, understanding and becoming one's true self. Science and religion are both saying to over come the self-centered barriers of the undeveloped brain/flesh.

6) In science the only way to comprehend life is to have a super mature emotionally intelligent mind that will interpret life exactly as it is. Religion uses the the word truth which is exactly the same as actual reality. Both are showing the way to comprehend and become our optimum self through developing our spirit/soul/mind capacity to comprehend the truth.

7) This insight from Jesus is bringing science and religion on the same page. So as far as emotional intelligence/wisdom is concerned science of religion is science and the science of science is religion. In fact Jesus is telling science to wake up to the fact that brain and mind are two separate entities and that it is essential to distinguish the differences and the similarities of the two.

8) Jesus is clearly saying to use the Mind(the insights of the Bible) to develop the mind. So we have to look for clues from other parts of the Bible to teach our selves how to become our minds.

9) Science helps religion and religion helps science; they are not contradictory. The only part of religion that is fuzzy in the eyes of science is religion's divine and eternal part. As for the rest they are both on the same page.

* The R stands for truth/reality. Truth/reality is not just a moral issue it is a much bigger health/economic/life/pure happiness/well-being issue. One can get away with falsehood when it comes to the ropes of life but when it comes to living ones life then truth is an essential factor in a top quality physical and emotional life.

All our emotional problems stem from not knowing, understanding and actualizing our true self. It is because our true self is hidden under the cloak of our part phony self image that we have all these problems in life. From economic troubles to depression from jealousy to suspicion, from anger to restlessness are all due to the part falsehood/emotional-baggage that runs our brains/minds. So the 4th R/truth is a very essential life factor; especially an emotional health factor.
